Bonnie's Garden is complete

Bonnie's Garden is complete (except for the quilting) and I'm very pleased with the end result.

This photo was taken when it was a work in progress, hence the unfinished flower on the left side.  I added ladybugs and am thinking of adding in a few inch worms. 

I don't know if you're like me, but I can remember what was going on as I made many of my quilts.  This will always be the quilt I was working on when the my mother was hospitalized and subsequently passed away.  When I took her for an appointment on March 18 little did I know that was the last time we would visit her family doctor.  When I checked her into the hospital later that day little did I know that would be the last time she would ride in my new car.  What I thought was bronchitis was something much, much worse.  The lymphoma she'd battled in 2010 had returned and spread to her lungs, bones, liver, and lymph nodes.  We put her in hospice care 2 days later, took her home the next day, and she took her last breath on the morning of Friday, Mar 22. 

I'll always remember her words as I showed her the quilt:  "That's so pretty."  She was always a big admirer of my work, and I was of hers.  She taught me so many things.

I can't be selfish and wish she had stayed here longer in the condition she was in.  She's in a better place and wouldn't want me to be a gloomy Gus.  Many have told me the loss gets easier with time.  I'm sure it will.     

I'll be back much sooner with some other projects.

When I saw Bonnie Sullivan's cover quilt at market, I knew I wanted to make it.  Just never seemed to find the time to fit it in the schedule.  I decided 2013 is the time to fit it in.  Here's the start.....

A little wool applique

I'm recreating an antique quilt I own but sometimes I need a break from that.  Wool applique provides a nice break.  This piece was fun to stitch.  It's called See no Evil and a kit is available here.

 

Spring Issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine

The magazine is here. As usual, it's wonderful and full of inspiration.

Neat Christmas Present

I have a very talented and creative niece. Look at the coasters she made me for Christmas. She took the photo from my blog, attached it to a ceramic tile, and sealed each tile. Very ingenious!

I have been stitching on my little baskets. These are great take anywhere blocks. I thought I had close to 100 blocks but am not even close. Oh well, it's not a race!

I am really excited for the next issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects to arrive. I have a quilt in the spring issue. Can't show a photo yet but I've been told magazines start shipping next week.

Hope your 2013 is off to a good start.

New small project

I've been pretty quiet the past few months. I've been working on projects to be submitted to magazines and can't show them yet. The magazine projects are finished, and I now have time to play.

One of the projects that caught my eye at quilt market was a cute snowman project from Primitive Gatherings. I chose the mini version which finishes 30" x 34". Sew Graceful Quilting will have kits for the project if you want to make one just like mine.

Here's the first four blocks -- quick and easy.

I survived!

Oh my goodness! I'd heard stories but nothing prepared me for Quilt Festival in Houston! I've never seen so many ladies (mostly) in one place with one mission: to enjoy quilts. Over 1000 vendor booths and dozens of beautiful quilts on display.

I helped Lynette Anderson in her booth. Here's the booth when I arrived for set up on Weds. We couldn't dawdle because preview night opened at 5:00 p.m.

We were ready in plenty of time. Even had time to run out for a quick bite.

Here's why I didn't get to visit the other booths very often.

I'm home and enjoying my own bed. :-)
